In "The United States of Europe," T.R. Reid, an American with a first hand expirience of the European views of Americans, informs his fellow American citizens that a new superpower is emerging and the United State's image is fallig apart in the eyes of many other nations. Throughtout the first chapter Reid emphasizes on the views of Europeans towards our culture, they truly believe that we, as Americans, are inferior to them, they often enlarge our bad habits and minimize our good habits making us seem like "the bad guys." According to them we think about nothing else, but, eating, alcohol, war, and Jerry Springer, and yes, they do acknowledge our good habits, but sadly those are free refills on cofee, newstands at every corner, the opportunity to choose between paper or plastic bags, being able to go to the bank witout leaving your car (drive-through), H.S. graduations and reunions, 24 hour stores, and big refrigerators. These are the only things they like about Americans! In their eyes those are our only good habits!
